Basic Questions:

The following are some of the questions and items that you and your caller will need to answer:
  • Price – This may vary considerably depend on whether the caller is using a band or recorded music, type of dance (square, contra, variety-specialty dances.) The type of crowd (beginner dancers, experienced dancers or mixed, average age, mobility and the purpose of the event).
  • Pre-recorded music or a band – Bands add great ambiance and authenticity to the occasion.  However, pre-recorded will allow for a more rapid progress in teaching and a wider variety of “specialty dances (lines, solo, Country & Western couples, swing, ballroom etc.)  Many callers will only work with a band or recorded but not both. However, there are those that will work with both.
  • Size of the dance floor and the expected crowd will need to be evaluated.
  • Does the caller carry insurance and can the caller provide you with a Certificate of Insurance and perhaps “additional Insured” status.
  • If using recorded music are they BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) and ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) licensed.
  • Specialty music that may be needed.
  • Special situations such as children, youths, older, or disabilities. etc.
  • Duration of the job/show.
These questions and more will need to be evaluated.
