What is Square and Contra Dancing?
Square dancing involves four couples facing each other is a square formation. This formation can have as many squares as couples and the dance floor size will allow. They will dance a variety of figures within their own square and change squares often.
Contra dancing has long lines consisting of sub-groups of two couples facing. There can be as many “lines” as the hall-dance floor will allow. Each couple dances with their facing couple using a pre-taught sequence and then moves down one couple to dance with them for the same sequence.
Both of these dance styles will need different space requirements and this should be reviewed with your caller.
